The list for the top Hong Kong SAR startups for 2019 is here, and boy does it not fail to impress! This year these top ten companies shined with their funding rounds and are expected to show a lot of growth in the coming year.  Most of these top tech companies are unicorn startups while the rest of them are on their way to join the 1 billion club.

Top Hong Kong Startups to Watch out for 2019

GoGoVan

GoGoVan is a top startup in Hong Kong offering app-based logistic services. It was founded in 2013 by Nick Tang, Reeve Kwan, and Steven Lam. So far, there have been six funding rounds for the Hong Kong based startup through which the company raised a collective investment of $276.5 million. The last round of funding was the Series D round in 2018 from which the logistics tech startup picked $250 million. The round featured six investors and was led by InnoVision Capital which has also helped the company lead its way into the top Hong Kong based startups for 2019. The van services offered by GoGoVan is meant for goods as well as for pets.

Klook

Hong Kong based startup Klook completed its Series D round of funding in August this year. Sequoia Capital China and Boyu Capital led this round and invested $200 million in the company along with four other investors – TCV, Goldman Sachs, Matrix Partners, and OurCrowd. The last round of funding has made the company one of the top Hong Kong startups for 2019 that has got startup players, especially the regional travel tech segment looking out for how the company utilizes the fresh funds. Klook is a top startup in Hong Kong that offers a high-end yet easy-to-use platform for booking travel related services and activities. The company was co-founded by Eric Gnock Fah and Ethan Lin in 2014.

Oriente

The next company on our list of top Hong Kong startups for 2019 is innovative fintech company Oriente. It was founded by Geoff Prentice, Hubert Tai, and Lawrence Chu last year and has total investments of $105 million in its kitty. A top startup in Hong Kong, Oriente aims to bring financial services and technology to communities that still do not have good access to such services.  It has raised $105 million for its innovative fintech services from lead investors Sinar Mas Group, JG Summit Holdings, and Berjaya.  This is the second round of funding for Oriente and the largest one till date.

8 Securities

Hong Kong based startup 8 Securities is Asia’s first robo-advisor platform offering investing service. The company was founded in 2012 by Mathias Helleu and Mikaal Abdulla who led the company to offer not just the pioneer robo-adviser service but also the top startup in Hong Kong to offer first: mobile-only investing service, zero commission trading services, and social trading platform.  Its innovations and recent funding rounds make it a worthy company to be included among the top Hong Kong startups for 2019. 8 Securities completed its Series B round and picked $25 million from Nomura Asset Management earlier this year.

Storiqa

Storiqa completed its first round of funding in April this year pocketing $25 million from it. The investors who participated in this venture capital round are yet to be disclosed. Storiqa is one of the youngest companies in the top Hong Kong startups for 2019; it was founded in 2017 by Andrian Galkin and Ruslan Tugushev. The company is a pioneer cryptocurrency marketplace that has become a hit among both sellers and buyers on the platform. The Hong Kong based startup offers reliable transaction channels without any extra conversions and has a number of features for buyer protection.

Snapask

Hong Kong based startup Snapask is an innovative online tutoring app that offers fast homework related and other tutorial services within as less as 17 seconds. It was founded by Timothy Yu in 2015 and has completed four funding rounds till date. One of the top Hong Kong startups for 2019, Snapask’s last funding round was the largest one yet for the innovative edtech startup. Xie Zhan led this round and invested $15 million in Snapask bringing its total investments to $21.8 million. The company began as a Q&A format and has grown ever since to become a top edtech startup known for its on-demand academic assistance services.

The company has completed seven funding rounds accumulating investments worth $88.8 million. Gshopper is one of the top Hong Kong startups for 2019. Western Technology Investment invested $10 million in the company earlier this year to help it accelerate its growth and development. Another ecommerce company among the top Hong Kong startups for 2019, Ztore has recently raised $8 million from Welight Capital (lead investor) and Kwai Hung Group in its Series B round of funding. This is the fourth round of funding for the Hong Kong based startup that is a growing ecommerce platform. It was founded by Danny Shum and Clarence Ling in 2015 and is helping local brands get better visibility with its platform. The growing ecommerce startup plans to set up a resourceful and high-impact R&D team for advancing its logistics and warehouse systems.

Banuba

Banuba is another young company among the top Hong Kong startups for 2019. It was set up in 2016 by Viktor Prokopenya. The innovative tech startup offers high-end camera tech solutions that are machine learning based. The Hong Kong based startup began as a small scale AI lab that created AR solutions for mobile applications that supported augmented reality and has grown impressively in terms of investments and staff since its inception. Larnabel Ventures (lead investor) and VP Capital invested $7 million in Banuba earlier this year in its second funding round till date.
